DESCRIPTION:The effects of Hoarding Disorder are considerable and frequently destructive for those people who live with this condition and their network of friends and family. This presentation will review the diagnostic criteria for hoarding disorder\, as well as the typical profile of individuals who have the diagnosis. We will discuss the areas of the brain impacted by the disorder and how this has been known to change in older adulthood. The presentation will discuss consequences associated with hoarding disorder and interventions used in the past and will explore evidenced-based treatments being used today. The do’s and don’ts of engaging someone with hoarding disorder in treatment will be offered.
