Information & Referral

SeniorCare’s Information and Referral Services Department offers advice on all aspects of elder care and aging and services for adults of all ages with disabilities. In addition, resources to individuals, families, and professionals are available. All information is offered to the public without charge, and you can call as many times as you need.

Options Counseling

Options Counseling is a free, short term service for adults living with disabilities and older adults age 60+. Counselors can meet with consumers by phone, email, in person, or a combination. Options Counseling is available to people who reside at home, in nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, and to caregivers.

Medicare Counseling (SHINE)

SHINE, Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone, provides free, unbiased, health insurance information, counseling, and assistance to Massachusetts residents with Medicare and their caregivers. In addition to SeniorCare, SHINE Counselors are available at most local hospitals and Councils on Aging. SHINE Counselors meet with individuals, married couples, and caregivers who are trying to make sense of the complications of Medicare. SHINE is administered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs.

SeniorCare’s Honoring Choices Ambassadors will assist you with choosing a health care agent- your advocate with the power to step-in and make health care decisions when you are not able to make decisions yourself.

Protective Services

Elder Abuse, Neglect, or Self-Neglect

If you are concerned about an older adult (age 60 or older), and have reason to believe he/she is a victim of elder abuse, neglect, self-neglect or financial exploitation call the Massachusetts-based Elder Abuse Hotline at 1-800-922-2275. Every community in Massachusetts is covered by a designated Protective Service Agency.

A SeniorCare Care Manager is assigned to each of our Home Care consumers, and provides eligibility assessments, service planning and assistance with long term services and supports.

Nurses Screenings

SeniorCare’s nursing team provides medical eligibility screening, initial assessment, and any necessary periodic reassessment visits for participants who are served by our Home Care Program. In addition, our nurses develop personal care plans for home care consumers.

Consumer Directed Care

Consumer Directed Care is available to people who have been been assessed and found eligible for a state-funded home care program. The consumer becomes the employer, is allowed to choose their worker, set the schedule, and assign tasks.

Healthy Eating

Meals on Wheels
Home Delivered Meals

SeniorCare’s home delivered meals/Meals on Wheels program delivers well balanced meals to the door of homebound elders, Monday through Friday. The meals are designed to meet the nutritional needs of older adults and provide an important support to maintaining health and independence. In addition to a good meal, the friendly meal delivery drivers provide regular contact to those receiving meals.

Community Dining

Those 60 years of age and older are invited to enjoy lunch at a SeniorCare community dining rooms conveniently located throughout the North Shore in spaces such as Councils on Aging. In addition to a great meal, participants can enjoy the companionship of their peers, obtain information on additional programs and services and participate in other on-site activities.

In-Home Nutritional Counseling

Nutrition home visits are conducted by a registered dietitian with expertise in the nutritional needs of older adults. Services include nutrition assessment and counseling for specific medical conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure or malnutrition. Medical Nutritional Therapy

Successful management of diabetes or kidney disease can help you to feel better and improve your health. Medicare participants diagnosed with diabetes and/or chronic kidney disease (who are not on dialysis) can receive nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian on site or at home. Call SeniorCare’s Nutrition Dept at 978-281-1750 for information.

Money Management

MA Money Management Program

The Massachusetts Money Management Program is a free service that assists elders who have difficulty writing checks, balancing their checkbooks and managing their money.

SeniorCare is an authorized agency of the Social Security Representative Payee Program and provides benefit payment management for beneficiaries who are incapable of managing their Social Security or Supplemental Security Income payments. Call 978-281-1750 for more information.

Healthy Ideas

Healthy IDEAS is a community-based depression program that targets underserved, chronically ill older adults and addresses commonly recognized barriers to mental health care: detecting depression; helping clients understand depression as treatable; assisting them in gaining knowledge and skills to self-manage it; and linking primary care, mental health care, and social service providers/therapists.

Friendly Callers

SeniorCare’s Caring Connections Friendly Caller Program helps provide companionship and assistance to isolated older adults through meaningful social connections. Volunteers are needed to provide weekly calls and connect with an isolated elder. Schedule is flexible; training and ongoing support provided.

Technology Navigator

The SeniorCare Technology Navigator program provides free one-to-one assistance to help older adults (age 60 or older) access the internet, learn about technology resources and programs, and utilize technology to meet their individual goals.

Nursing Home Advocacy
Long Term Care Ombudsmen

Long-term Care Ombudsmen advocate on behalf of residents and their families, mediate solutions to various problems, and monitor care and conditions in facilities. They maintain a presence in facilities to insure that the rights of those residents who cannot speak for themselves are protected.
