A volunteer of 25 years, Vito LaMura is a member of SeniorCare’s AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Volunteers of the North Shore and gives his time and talents to multiple SeniorCare programs, as well as serving on the Board of Directors and Advisory Council. For his commitment to our community, the New England Patriots selected Vito as a “Patriots Difference Maker of the Week.” Vito will be honored during the January 5, 2025 game against the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium.
The New England Patriots “Celebrate Volunteerism” initiative highlights dedicated volunteers, building awareness of the need for volunteering, identifying and educating others about volunteer opportunities, and inspiring New Englanders to follow the Kraft family’s example of becoming lifelong volunteers.
Throughout the season, the Kraft family, the New England Patriots Foundation and Gillette celebrate volunteers who work tirelessly to support children and families in need throughout the New England region, while also encouraging Patriots fans to get involved in their communities.
Each week throughout the season, the Patriots select a “Patriots Difference Maker of the Week.” You can learn more about the 2024 winners at https://www.patriots.com/community/pdm.
Vito is a Meals on Wheels volunteer, delivering lunch to homebound older adults, bringing them a nutritious meal, a smile, and a little conversation. Sometimes, these visits are the only contact the meal recipients will have during the day, so these visits also function as wellness checks. They eagerly look forward to Vito’s visits.
Vito drives elders to and from their medical appointments, escorting them, waiting while they are at their appointments, picking up prescriptions, and bringing them home safely. He assists elders with organizing their mail, helping them pay their bills, and educating them about scams and fraud. Family members who may not live close to their family have told Vito that just knowing their loved one is receiving regular meals and social interaction through Meals on Wheels provides them with peace of mind.
SeniorCare provides services to older and disabled adults in nine North Shore communities, supporting their independence at home or in their chosen living environments while remaining integrated in their communities. With over 50 years of service, SeniorCare’s staff and volunteers have supported thousands of older adults and their families. Learn more about SeniorCare at www.seniorcareinc.org.
SeniorCare could not support these invaluable programs without the generosity of volunteers like Vito. He is an incredibly dedicated, caring human being, willing to help wherever and whenever. He has spent time volunteering for many organizations over the years. Vito continues to live in the service of others, which exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism.
Vito tells us “I am thrilled to receive the “Patriots Difference Maker of the Week” award. An invitation from the Kraft family to a Patriots game at Gillette is a long-time fan’s wish come true. Most importantly, however, is my delight and deep appreciation of the Kraft family focusing a regional spotlight on the power of volunteerism. Thank you so very much! I am only one of many, many, many volunteers who know that without service to others our communities suffer and we, ourselves, are unfulfilled.”
