AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has been helping low – moderate income seniors prepare and file their federal and state tax returns since 1968. However, on March 16, in response to the COVID-19 situation, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide operations across the nation were suspended and remain closed for the safety of our volunteers and taxpayers.
As these sites remain closed and the Governor urges those 65 and older to stay home, the program continues to look for ways to help the many taxpayers who had not yet filed their 2019 federal and state tax returns. While the deadline has been extended until July 15, it is not known if the sites will re-open during this extended tax season.
In lieu of providing on-site tax preparation assistance, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is providing access to selected tax preparation software so taxpayers can prepare and file their own tax returns at NO COST through the Free File Alliance. While this tax software which can be found at this link, Tax Software, and is essentially the same software AARP uses at tax preparation sites, other software can be found at AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Free File Links . To use this service, you must have access to a computer.
The program is also offering assistance to those who may have questions during the preparation of their 2019 federal and state tax returns, through the Tax-Aide Prep Assistance Request form which can be found at Tax-Aide Prep Assistance Request Form. Once the form is completed and submitted an IRS Certified AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteer will contact you to help answer any questions that you may have. To use this service, you must have access to a computer, an email address, and have some understanding of your tax situation. Please note: this form is to request help with the preparation of your tax return. If you have a general tax related question, please go to the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Online Tax Assistance forum here.
